Argentine political organizations and leaders of different signs, including supporters of Juntos por el Cambio (JxC) close to former President Mauricio Macri, have rejected on Friday the appointment of Rodolfo Barra as Treasury prosecutor
The Argentine Forum against Antisemitism (FACA) has criticized in a statement that it is "inadmissible that a person with a background linked to the Nationalist Tacuara Movement, with tendencies close to Nazism, be appointed" to the Office of the National Treasury.
In this sense, FACA has described "this election as a direct affront to the democratic and plural spirit" of Argentina, urging "the reconsideration of the designation" in a "forceful" way.
The president of the forum and deputy of JxC, Maximiliano Ferraro, has shared the aforementioned note on his social networks, adding his rejection of the appointment of the former minister of the Supreme Court during the administration of Carlos Menem and former head of Justice of that same Government.
To this cancellation has been added the former title of the Anti-Corruption Office during the Macri administration, Laura Alonso, who has also disseminated the text of FACA her social profiles.
For his part, the former Secretary of Human Rights during the Macri regime and Honorary President of the Shoah Museum, has warned that the appointment of Barra as prosecutor "does not do democracy any good" and stressed that "one must always remember".
Likewise, from the Civil Association Memoria Activa they have recalled Barra's "Nazi past" with the cover of the Magazine Noticias published in 1996, in which "the then Minister of Justice" of former President Carlos Menem was denounced and "his resignation was requested for his participation in Nazi organizations and acts".
"Today, almost 28 years later, impunity is repeated and so is our demand: we express our absolute rejection of the appointment of Rodolfo Barra as Treasury prosecutor," the organization has ruled.
In addition to being "a member of the Tacuara Nazi group", Barra participated in the intervention of the UBA in which there were "eleven dead students and four disappeared" and was a member of the Menemista Supreme Court of Justice that implemented the Gag Law to limit press freedom, as recalled by the president of the radical youth of CABA, Agustín Rombolá, and has collected Telam.
"That is, let's say: macho, conservative, Nazi and fascist. Perfect for this government," Rombol has apostilled. On the other hand, the lawmaker of the Left Front (FIT-U) Gabriel Solano has referred to Barra as one of "these (are the) anti-Semitic Nazis friends of Israel."
Also from the FIT-U, elected national deputy Néstor Pitrola, added that "the new Prosecutor, former Menemist Court, are with the Zionist State and with Milei." "There is no anti-Semite among those of us who defend the rights of the Palestinian people, the victim of systematic genocide," he said.
These declarations come after President-elect Javier Milei announced on Friday that the former presidential candidate of Juntos por el Cambio, Patricia Bullrich, will be his minister of Security and that the former Menemista official Rodolfo Barra will occupy the position of prosecutor of the National Treasury.
